Paris - is the capital of France situated on the river Seine. With approximate area of 86.9 km2 and total population about 2 203 817 (and the whole metropolitan area has even bigger rates - 2723 km2 and more than 11 mln people respectively) Paris is the largest city in France and one of the biggest urban areas in Europe. The city was initially called Lutetia Parisiorum after the inhabitants - Gaulish tribe called Parisii. In 4th century AD the city was renamed into its modern variant. Nowadays it is one of the most vital business, political and cultural centres of the modern world with its numerous leading companies, famous museums and number of international organizations, residing in the city such as UNESCO, Paris Club and International Chamber of Commerce.
